I’m an Englishman, not in New York, but in the Beaujolais region, where I have been living since 2002.
Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, I lived and grew up in London in the heady days of pirate radio, or ‘free radio’ as we preferred to call it. In the UK free radio originated on ships in the North Sea, in international waters and therefore outside the jurisdiction of the British government at that time. From these ships, and disused wartime forts, the stations broadcast their mixture of music and friendly conversation to a huge and enthusiastic audience of listeners.
I was immediately bitten by the radio ‘bug’ and presented programmes in those early days using a variety of pseudonyms, the most improbable being Marcus de Vere!
I finally got a ‘proper job’ and worked in London before being transferred by my company to Lyon to assist in the setting up of their French office.
Having also recently enjoyed several years working as an English teacher to businesses and private individuals, it is now time to return to my first love… and so Radio Beaujolais International is born!!
